Mapleton Local board approves personnel changes, volunteers and coaching hires

The Mapleton Local School District Board approved a slate of personnel and extracurricular staffing items on Oct. 14 under the superintendent’s consent agenda and separate motions.
The consent agenda approved classroom volunteers (Dian Britton, Jessica Elson, Kaeli Shepherd, Melody Welter) and van drivers (Caroline Kaiser, Jennifer Bosnak). The board approved a limited one-year contract for Dennis Rickett as a bus driver (effective Sept. 11, 2024) and accepted resignations from Ashley Viola (cafeteria aide, effective Sept. 14) and Beth Hickey (cook, effective Sept. 19). The board then approved a limited one-year contract for Caroline Kaiser as a cook (effective Sept. 22) and a limited one-year paraprofessional contract for Steve Kopp (effective Oct. 14).
Supplemental employment approvals included Melissa Kodger for Jefferson County ESC Virtual Classroom teaching assignments (compensation noted in the minutes), a list of after-school detention monitors and supplemental contracts for extracurricular advisors such as Brittany Palmer as the middle school yearbook advisor. For pupil activities, the board accepted resignations of Michele Lahmers and Jason Keener from soccer coaching positions (effective Oct. 2) and approved contracts hiring Jim Pokrzywa as head varsity soccer coach and Beau Weidinger as varsity assistant coach, both effective Oct. 2, 2024.
All personnel motions carried unanimously; the minutes record motions to approve pending criminal record checks and district requirements for new hires. The board entered an executive session later in the meeting for permitted personnel and legal topics before adjourning.
