Shawnee County authorizes bridge replacement solicitations and multiple public‑works awards

The Shawnee County Board of County Commissioners on Jan. 12 authorized public works to proceed with design, bidding and several procurement awards for road and bridge work.
Curtney House, director of Public Works, said the Calhoun Bluff Road project will remove an existing bridge and replace it with an 8x8 box culvert because of long‑term drainage changes; construction is anticipated to begin in April and conclude in August, funded from the county bridges portion of the retailer sales tax program. The board authorized staff to solicit construction bids and establish a project budget.
House also presented contract C2026003 for professional design and construction engineering with Cookflat Strobble Engineers PA for a bridge replacement on NW 78th Street; commissioners approved the design contract and directed staff to proceed. The board approved multiple procurement awards recommended by Public Works: Diamond Vogle Inc. (traffic paint), Potters Industries LLC (glass beads for retroreflectivity), and a split award to Contact Engineering Solutions LLC and Metal Culvers Inc. for aluminized/galvanized conduit and insections, with staff to combine vendor prices when ordering to secure the lowest cost and maintain compatibility. House noted delivery windows and in‑stock availability for common sizes.
All public‑works motions were approved by voice vote.
