Barb Dyer of the Transfer Station & Recycling Committee described the current situation: Jersey barriers partially obscure the rigid‑plastics containers, and simple signage has not been sufficiently visible. "It’s an interest to have something there that looks better than the Jersey barrier and that sort of says Rigid Plastics," Dyer said, adding that a volunteer artist has offered to donate time and requested roughly $350 for materials.
Selectboard members agreed the town should avoid setting an informal precedent for unvetted artwork on town property. Several members said they generally support tasteful public‑art projects (citing prior tasteful electrical‑box wraps and barrier paintings elsewhere in town) but recommended the artist provide sketches and examples of prior work. The board and staff also discussed whether the committee could approve the mural administratively or whether it should appear on a future Selectboard agenda; the outcome was a practical one: the artist should submit conceptual sketches and examples, and staff will coordinate an appropriate review and timing (the board offered to review the sketch at a meeting if needed).
