Mapleton board approves financial reports, policy updates and $33,835 Cat6 cabling with E-Rate support

At its Feb. 9 meeting, the Mapleton Local School District Board of Education approved several financial and policy items and authorized technology and extracurricular expenditures.
The board voted to accept the January 2026 Financial Report and approved the establishment of Fund 499-9026 for a Bus Safety Grant for FY26. Members also approved an updated Three Year Forecast covering fiscal years 2026 through 2029 and passed a resolution accepting the amounts and rates set by the Ashland County Budget Commission and certifying necessary tax levies to the Ashland County Auditor.
Standing committee assignments for 2026 were approved: Fred Hartzler was named to the Heartland Technical Education Center, Kathy Goon was appointed OSBA Legislative Liaison (with Travis Kettering as alternate), and Kyle Gordon will serve on the Athletic Council.
On policy, the board gave second reading and approval to multiple policy updates, including 1.04 (Membership and Election of Board of Education), 3.10 (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Testing), 6.31 (Student Health Services and First Aid), 6.53 (Transportation of Students in Board Owned Vehicles), 6.61 (Overdose Reversal Drugs), 8.08 (Expense Reimbursements, omitting optional section), and 9.42 (Recording of Academic Instruction, Meetings and Other Services).
Two resolutions recognizing March 2026 were adopted: Art in Our Schools Month (theme: "The World Needs Art") and Music in Our Schools Month (theme: "United Through Music"). The board also approved continued membership for Mapleton Middle School and Mapleton High School in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for 2026-2027.
For infrastructure, the board approved a contract with Riverside Technologies, Inc. to install Cat 6 data cable to up to 90 access points at Mapleton Elementary and Mapleton Middle/High School for $33,835.71. The board recorded that 70% of that cost is expected to be reimbursed through E-Rate, leaving the district with an estimated net cost of $10,150.71 to be paid from Permanent Improvement funds.
The district also approved overnight/extended field trips for Mapleton Robotics teams to attend state championships in Dayton in March 2026.
