Residents press River Ridge CDD to fix Pinehurst drainage as engineer recommends study

At the River Ridge Community Development District meeting July 23, resident Shari Perkins told the Board that, a week after a plugged street drain, water continues to overflow around the Pinehurst triangle monument and that a retention pond between River 8 and River 9 appears non‑functional, leaving water ‘‘nearly 1’ above the drain.’’

Perkins said she has photographs and will provide video footage to CDD staff. Resident Ed Nowak asked where the northern outflow at Pinehurst Greens Drive discharges; District staff replied that the pipes eventually flow to the Estero River via a ditch that runs to the River Club.

District Engineer John Baker said plugging an inlet removed the previous pushing action from an adjacent system but left water with ‘‘no place for the water to go’’ and compared the condition to ‘‘a very tiny pond in a pipe.’’ He recommended taking photographs or video of flooding instances and conducting an additional study to identify a lasting fix. The Board directed staff to have the District Engineer view the drainage firsthand.

Mr. Adams said pipes in question run between houses, across the street and the golf course to the ditch leading to the River Club. The Board also noted MRI Construction is obtaining a separate proposal for inlet repairs and that a presented estimate for a Type 9 inlet top remains on the agenda for future consideration.

The Board did not adopt a final repair plan at the July 23 meeting; staff and the District Engineer will report findings and any proposed work at a later meeting.
