A lengthy discussion of the county administrator’s evaluation occupied a significant portion of the May 19 meeting, during which the Board reviewed a folder of materials that included a Corporation Counsel–created Evaluation Tool, a job description, the current administrator contract and a draft evaluation.
Chairperson Chuck Bornhoeft asked supervisors to provide feedback on the evaluation tool and draft. After extended debate the Board agreed to proceed with the previously used evaluation form, with allowance for additional narrative where needed. Vice-Chair Lance Achterberg moved and Supervisor Mike Raddatz seconded a motion to accept input from the County Board using the previously used form; the motion carried. Board members were directed to send comments focused on strengths, weaknesses and objectives to County Clerk Kiley Lloyd by June 10 for the Executive & Finance Committee meeting. The committee will forward a rough draft of the evaluation to the full County Board.
Administrator Ron Barger and Corporation Counsel Representative Atty. Sean Griffin participated in the discussion; the record shows the Board debated deadlines, evaluation criteria and whether to edit the Corporation Counsel–prepared documents or proceed with the older form to expedite completion. The Board did not adopt changes to the administrator’s contract at the meeting; the immediate, procedural decision was limited to the evaluation process and the input timeline.
What happens next: Executive & Finance will compile submitted input and produce a draft evaluation for the board; the June 10 input deadline is material to the schedule.
