Romeo Community Schools board approves multiple resolutions, opens RVA Schools of Choice for second semester

Romeo Virtual Academy and enrollment: The board heard a presentation from Amy Maruca, RVA Supervisor, and approved opening Schools of Choice for the Romeo Virtual Academy for the second semester. Ms. McFarlane noted that RVA enrollment is "down a bit from last year" and confirmed that RVA students are subject to behavior threat assessments and that mentor caseloads are managed with a metric of 1.25, which equates to a full-time mentor maximum caseload of 50 students. Ms. Bowman expressed concern about admitting outside students, particularly seniors, citing possible effects on existing students' support and safety.
Administrative updates and personnel: The board introduced and welcomed Beth Pereira as the new Executive Director of Business Services; Trustee Antoine said Pereira was his top choice from the interview committee. Superintendent Dr. Robinson thanked the community for passing the bond and said a construction timeline will be created for projects that will come to the board for approval for the 2027 construction season. Dr. Robinson also announced that Dan Irvin from Barton Malow is taking a new position and thanked him for his service.
