Sheriff reports FY26 PSAP grant closeout; jail/dispatch split deferred pending hiring

Sheriff Konrath told the Judicial & Public Safety Committee on June 5 that Marquette County closed out its FY26 PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) grant, which was originally $777,237.42; the county recorded $769,706.62 in expenditures and a 10% match of $76,970.66. Baycom testing of the PSAP system was scheduled for June 11.
Sheriff Konrath and Captain Tomlin reported that a planned operational split between jail and dispatch is not feasible at present because the county must hire and train four additional deputies before separating those functions. The minutes record the staffing requirement as a practical precondition to any split.
Committee discussion also covered strategic plan implementation and review of major vendor contracts, particularly health and jail food services; Sheriff Konrath said he reviews large contracts annually with Administrator Barger and is exploring a FY27 PSAP grant with IT Director Dan Buchholz. The committee asked for greater clarity on leased-vehicle invoicing after Supervisor Chuck Bornhoeft noted a CAP price-reduction line; Stacy Kohn (representing Enterprise) told the committee Enterprise considers the CAP reduction to be a down payment and discussed invoicing practices.
The committee scheduled its next meeting for July 1 at 11:00 a.m., and set regular meetings beginning in August for the first Wednesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. The meeting adjourned at 10:49 a.m.
