Dawes County commissioners approve claims, surplus two computers and direct treasurer to correct fund coding

The Dawes County Board of Commissioners met Nov. 10 in Chadron and approved routine business including the agenda, prior minutes and all submitted claims.

Chairman Vic Rivera called the meeting to order at 9:08 a.m. Commissioner Jake Stewart moved to approve the agenda, with Commissioner Walter Juhlin seconding; the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Juhlin subsequently moved to approve the Oct. 28, 2025 minutes, seconded by Stewart, and that motion also passed by unanimous roll call.

Treasurer Sam Wellnitz joined the meeting and the Board approved departmental fee and mileage reports by general consent before moving to a formal vote to approve all claims as submitted. Commissioner Juhlin moved to approve the claims, seconded by Commissioner Stewart; the roll call again showed Ayes from Rivera, Juhlin and Stewart.

The Board also reviewed surplus requests from the County Clerk and the Assessor for two obsolete computers. Commissioner Juhlin moved to place both computers on the surplus list for disposal; Commissioner Stewart seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

Wellnitz reported a coding error affecting funds 2910–2913 (emergency communications/wireless communications accounts) and that several certificates of deposit were maturing soon. He said the county has sufficient funds in the working account and outlined plans to combine a Money Market account from Omaha into a CD at Platte Valley Bank and to move some funds to the NPAIT account. Commissioner Stewart moved and Juhlin seconded a motion directing the Treasurer to correct the coding error; the motion passed on a unanimous vote.

The Board adjourned at 9:38 a.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 25, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioner Room.
