Merrimac Open Space Committee to issue RFP after OSRP extension denied; $20,000 grant application planned

Lucy Abisalih, an Open Space Committee member, reported on May 27 that Merrimac is not eligible for an extension of its expired Open Space and Recreation Plan, and she said she is prepared to issue a request for proposals (RFP) to develop a new OSRP.
Lucy outlined parties she will invite to serve on the OSRP advisory committee: the Select Board, Planning Board, Conservation Commission, a representative for sports leagues, Neighbors for Nature, and Green Energy. Lucy and Sean Wright indicated they would serve as the committee's Open Space Committee representatives.
Lucy said the committee plans to submit a grant application for $20,000 after July 1 to begin the plan in the fall. She asked all committee members to review the prior OSRP as a refresher.
At the same meeting committee members also agreed to follow up on a small FY'26 balance of $424 in the Open Space Committee line item to determine what trail supplies might be purchased before the fiscal year ends. Dawn Ackerman said she will contact the Old Home Days committee to request a vendor booth so the committee can recruit volunteers and share information about the OSRP and trail projects.
The committee set its next meeting for June 24 at 4:00 p.m. and adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
