Staff described the project as widening an existing sidewalk to 10 feet along Berkeley Drive from Frontage Road toward Issequena/Cambridge, adding a new parking area near Berkeley Orchard, re-striping parking at Ashley Dearing, and installing landscaping and a fast-path connection. The council noted the goal of completing the main Berkeley sidewalk before the start of the school year in August; the orchard portion may be completed later.
Council members and staff said the project supports safe walking and biking routes to schools and links several existing park and trail components. The contract was approved by motion; the vote was taken by voice/hand and recorded as passed in the meeting minutes.
