The Board of Education of the Reorganized School District R-III of Clinton County appointed Keith Carnie to a vacated board seat and reorganized its leadership during its Aug. 21 meeting in Plattsburg.
Leah Gipe and Keith Carnie each spoke to express interest in the vacancy during the public-comment portion of the meeting. After discussion, Greg Harris moved to appoint Keith Carnie to the vacancy; the motion passed 6-0-1.
Following the appointment, Superintendent Dr. Sandy Steggall solicited nominations for board officers. Danny Parra nominated Keith Carnie for board president; Michael Burton seconded the nomination, which passed 6-0-1. Parra then nominated Travis Day for vice president; Greg Harris seconded and that nomination also passed 6-0-1.
The board recorded these actions in its minutes and indicated the votes reflected one abstention on the contested appointment and officer elections. The meeting then continued with routine business and reports.
