County Reports Paving Progress, Engineering Agreement and Potential $300k–$350k Overrun on State Project

The director also described a separate state '8-trip' bridge/road project that has encountered worse-than-expected material and soil conditions, leading contractors to submit change orders to ALDOT; the director estimated potential overruns "probably around $300,350,000 extra on this" (the discussion placed the likely additional cost in the low hundreds of thousands and said the MPO has agreed to participate, but the county would remain responsible for 20% of overruns).
Separately, the county described a waterline relocation on Simpson/Sandy Road complicated by beaver dams that have backed water onto property; staff reported a trap-and-relocate approach and manual removal of dams may be required and cited a contractor estimate during the meeting.
Commissioners said they would review engineering agreements and bring recommendations to the next formal meeting.
