The East Rutherford Board of Education voted 6–0 to terminate an employee effective March 13, 2026, after discussing the matter in executive session. The personnel committee presented a resolution that the board adopted by roll call.
The personnel committee chair read the resolution into the record, stating that “the employee whose name is on file in the superintendent's office is terminated effective 03/13/2026,” and that the termination was for cause “based on the reasons on file in the superintendent's office.” The resolution also said that if a subsequent determination establishes insufficient cause, the employee would instead be terminated on 60 days' notice. The board authorized the president, superintendent, business administrator, board secretary, board counsel and any other necessary officers to execute documents needed to implement the resolution.
Board members recorded their votes by roll call; the transcript shows the board answering “Yes” for Miss Caruso, Miss Cauley, Miss LaRusso, Mister Segalini, Miss Mena and Mister Banker. The motion passed by a 6–0 tally.
The resolution text, as read, noted that the employee’s name and the basis for the recommendation were presented to the board in executive session on 03/12/2026 and that the record of the basis is on file in the superintendent’s office. The board stated that minutes or records of the closed session would be withheld if disclosure would “detrimentally affect any right or interest of the board,” per the public meeting notice read at the start of the meeting.
Because the personnel matter was handled in closed session and the resolution refers to records on file, the public record available from the meeting does not include the employee’s name or the specific factual basis for the recommendation. The board’s action gives authorized officials authority to take “any and all actions necessary to complete and realize the intent and purpose of this resolution,” language included in the resolution as read to the board.
The board announced its next regular meeting for Monday, March 23, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.; any further public actions related to this personnel matter would be disclosed in accord with applicable law and board policy.
