Members of the Village/GTRLC working group told the council the Elberta Waterfront Community Conservation Project remains short $3.6 million of the purchase price and is seeking funds by a Dec. 15 deadline. The project was highlighted in Landscript and village leaders said they met with the Land Bank as part of continuing acquisition and conservation planning.
The working group report was part of a broader set of committee and county updates. County Commissioner Gary Sauer gave a verbal report on the Mackinac Policy Conference and county items including a new health department officer starting Nov. 27, approval of an emergency radio communications tower in Frankfort, possible temporary relocation of recycling while a wetland is filled, and two critical county bridges that will not be repaired. Planning and parks reports described an upcoming zoning map draft (Beckett & Raeder) and public input opportunities for the Parks & Recreation Plan, including an open house Oct. 29 at LSS.
Council members characterized the waterfront project as a multi-stakeholder effort requiring additional fundraising; the minutes note the $3.6 million target and the Dec. 15 timeline for the purchase price. No formal council action on the waterfront purchase was recorded at the Oct. 17 meeting.
