Wheeling approves Cook County Class 6b designation for Unity Manufacturing relocation

The Wheeling Village Board on July 8 approved a resolution consenting to a Cook County Class 6b property tax classification for a proposed Unity Manufacturing relocation to 130–150 Carpenter Avenue.
Mister Becker presented the applicant, Emmett Hammond, as representing a longstanding Chicago-area vehicle lighting manufacturer (Unity Manufacturing). Becker said the proposal involves purchasing and improving a roughly 60,000-square-foot building, investing more than $5 million and relocating administration functions to Wheeling while creating about 50 jobs. Becker told the board the twelve-year Class 6b incentive is projected to produce a net positive revenue of over $700,000 over the incentive period.
No trustees asked substantive questions and the board moved, seconded and approved the resolution by roll call. Clerk Bridal recorded the affirmative votes.
Becker and the applicant were present at the meeting; trustees congratulated the applicant following the vote.
