Commissioners approve e-citation maintenance and standardize constable equipment

Nueces County Commissioners unanimously approved two public-safety items on April 15: funding to cover maintenance costs for the countywide e-citation system and a county purchase to standardize firearms and related equipment for Constable offices.
The court authorized $43,953.01 from General Capital Projects to cover e-citation maintenance costs; staff said usage has expanded and that the system helps automate reporting and racial-profiling data submissions. A staff speaker noted that precinct citation counts in the prior fiscal year ranged from roughly 500 to more than 1,200.
The court also approved a $115,165.60 purchase from Galls LLC and Peacemaker's Armory to supply standardized pistols, belts and other equipment for Constable precincts 1–5. County staff said the procurement complied with competitive purchasing rules and used cooperative purchasing for part of the order.
Commissioners and staff described the standardization as a long-overdue measure to ensure consistent training and interchangeability of ammunition and parts across offices; motions carried with unanimous support.
Purchasing will distribute equipment to constable offices once policies (for high-speed-chase and excessive-force protocols) are in place for precincts that have not yet submitted them.
