Pinellas board approves rezoning plan after Cross Bayou Elementary closure

"The grid will be adjusted to accommodate the closure of Cross Bayou beginning in the 2627 school year," said Leanna Ison, describing a revised grid that divides the Cross Bayou zone and adds portions to the adjacent Bardmore Elementary and Pinellas Central Elementary zones. Ison said the grid atlas uses 1,123 grids to create school zones and noted the two receiving schools are within five miles of Cross Bayou and are separated by 66th Street, a natural dividing line.
No members of the public spoke on the item during the hearing. After questions from the board, Chair Edmond called for a motion to approve the amendments. The motion, moved and seconded by board members, passed 7 to 0.
The board recorded the action as an amendment to Policy 51 20 effective for the 2627 school year. No additional conditions or offsets were specified during the meeting; the director recommended the amendments to ensure efficient district operations following the school closure.
