Daniel adopts Wildland Urban Interface map and code
Summary

The Daniel Town Council on June 1 adopted a Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) map and code (DO 2026-06-01B) after a public hearing and Planning Commission recommendation.
Town Planner Eric Bunker explained the recommendation to adopt the irrigation map as the Town's WUI map in order to minimize impacts on residents. Council discussion clarified the adopted map's boundaries end at the town limits. Councilmember Eric Bennett noted the adoption means the State will assess fees for anyone in the high-risk area previously set by state designation.
Councilmember Walton moved to adopt the WUI map and code; Councilmember Rose seconded. The council voted unanimously (Bennett yes, Walton yes, Grady yes, Rose yes, Kohler yes). Mayor Kohler read the ordinance into the record.
The adoption aligns local building code with wildfire-risk mapping and will affect future building approvals and state fee assessments for properties designated high risk.
