Students spotlight new STEAM class as PTO outlines fundraising and asks for more public access

Elementary students demonstrated projects from a new K–6 STEAM special and the PTO representative reported fundraising successes and asked the board to reconsider a policy limiting public questions and to schedule regular open forums.
Elementary students spoke at the meeting to describe projects from a newly introduced STEAM special that serves kindergarten through sixth grade. One student said, "Steam is a great special," and students described projects including a vending‑machine model, sewing projects and collaborative craft work facilitated by teacher support and donated materials.
The elementary presenter also reported that the fall fundraiser raised a little over $8,000 for the principal's discretionary account, which funds student recognition, PBIS supports, field trips and other activities. The principal outlined upcoming events including literacy night, holiday concerts and an author visit by Jeff Miller.
Earlier in the public‑comment period a PTO representative described planned fundraising and teacher appreciation activities and urged the board to "reconsider this policy" limiting public questions during board meetings, requesting regular open forums as a transparency measure. The chair acknowledged plans to schedule a couple of open forums next year.
The board praised students and volunteers and said administration will return with procedures for community use of facilities (for example, the new track) once fencing and other work are complete.
