Spring Valley board approves expanded track and field project using referendum savings

The School District of Spring Valley Board voted May 20 to expand the referendum-funded track and field project, approving several additions funded by savings from other referendum work. Emily Collins, a school board member, moved to approve the additions; Monica Shafer, the district clerk, seconded the motion and it carried.

The approved additions are a permanent 1,000-seat bleacher system; a press box with storage underneath; lights and a sound system; and installation of water and electrical hookups plus earthwork to develop a flat site for a future concession stand. The Building & Grounds Committee had been engaged in ongoing discussions about the track project prior to the vote.

Board members framed the vote as a way to invest remaining referendum dollars into durable, spectator-facing amenities. The vote followed routine consent and committee reports during the regular meeting called to order by President Stacy Schultz at 6:00 p.m.

The motion was recorded on the meeting agenda as a use of referendum savings after several projects came in under budget.
