WWTP operator reports maintenance progress, withdraws bioclear replacement after cheaper fix found

Jeff Gamelli, a staff member responsible for the Town of Otis wastewater treatment plant, told the Select Board/Finance Committee on March 10, 2026, that plant operations are running well and several maintenance projects are underway.
Gamelli said he is progressing on a ball-valve project and work on air release valves. He had submitted a capital request to replace bioclear units but withdrew that request after locating a much cheaper alternative: insulating the existing units.
He reported that his truck remains in service and does not require replacement. Gamelli told the board that backup operator scheduling and the rates paid for backup coverage represent one of the larger expenses in his budget.
On a longer-term item, Gamelli said the town is working with SK Design on a sewer extension that was committed previously but never installed; he said final design work and an estimate are expected this summer.
The board received the update and did not take formal action at the meeting. The session was called to order at 5:37 PM and adjourned at 6:23 PM.
