The Lake Ridge New Tech Schools board approved a series of routine administrative and personnel items at its Oct. 14 meeting, including professional development, personnel changes, procurement items and fundraising permissions.
Dr. Shirley Johnson presented recommended professional development travel and conference attendance for multiple staff members, with expenses charged to Title II A, the multilingual fund and the operations fund. "We recommend Erin Carter, Nicole Williams, and Sophia Minor attend the NESEC Northern Indiana Educational Service Center," she said, then listed several additional conference recommendations for different staff and funds. The board moved to approve the professional development items and carried the motion.
Dr. Shirley also presented personnel items and noted state-code conditions for new hires: "All new employment to Lakeridge New Tech Schools is contingent upon a cleared expanded criminal history background check within 30 days and a cleared expanded child protection index check within 60 days of affected date," citing Indiana Code provisions in the agenda. The board voted to accept resignations (effective dates listed in the packet) and to employ Vanessa Rodriguez as a Head Start building assistant effective Oct. 15, 2024.
Under new business, the board approved purchase orders over $10,000 for office furniture and for repair of an electric utility pole at the central office; authorized a commemorative engraved-brick fundraiser for a secured-entry project; approved a dual-credit communications course and adjunct stipend; dissolved the robotics account and transferred remaining funds to the student general account; approved middle- and high-school coaching lists for 2024–25; and accepted several modest donations and fundraising schedules for school PTAs and accounts.
Board members thanked staff and the contractor teams and congratulated Dr. Shirley on recent awards. Motions to approve the professional development, personnel, and new-business items were made, seconded and passed by voice vote.
Next steps: approved hires, purchases and event permissions will be implemented by district administration per the board's motions and the district's procurement and HR processes.
