The Hamilton School District board approved the 2024 summer school report and adopted recommended dates for summer 2025 after a review of enrollment, staffing and program changes.
Presenters said summer school 2024 enrolled 1,685 students (down slightly from a peak that had previously been reported higher during initial counts), including 238 high-school students. The program had 196 total staff members and 53 classroom teachers; two coordinators and three assistant coordinators supported the operation.
District staff described program changes for 2024 in response to state requirements (Act 20): early-reading interventions were restructured and 4K–1st grade programming moved from Maple Avenue to Woodside Elementary to provide more space and easier drop-off. Credit-recovery offerings were not provided in 2024 but may be reconsidered for 2025. Presenters also described a plan to review the summer-school coordinator role after a vacancy cycle this year.
The district proposed summer dates for 2025 (June 23–July 18 with Friday, July 4 as a full day) and asked the board to approve the report and dates. A motion to approve was seconded and carried by voice vote.
What’s next: Staff will continue to refine interventions, consider credit-recovery locations, and may return with recommendations on coordinator structure and any budget implications tied to expanded programming.
