Allamakee County opens sealed bids for concrete patching; solid-waste department to seek five‑year contract

During the July 6 Allamakee County Board meeting, supervisors opened sealed bids to patch 1,286 square yards of county concrete and heard department updates on solid-waste contracting and declining grant funding for well plugging.
Supervisor Byrnes opened and read four sealed bids for the concrete patching project: Cedar Falls Construction $197,932.20; Midwest Contractors Inc. $209,996.00; Bacon Concrete $244,801.94; Skyline Construction $281,994.56. Engineer Brian Ridenour told the board he will review the bids and bring a recommendation at next week’s meeting.
Dave Mooney of the Solid Waste department said he is starting the bid process for a five-year waste contract. Auditor Denise Beyer also briefed the board on administrative work for July, including cash balancing and preparation of tax statements.
Laurie Moody, Environmental Health/Sanitarian, reviewed the history of the Grant to Counties used for well plugging and rehabilitation, said the grant funding is beginning to decrease each year and described the department’s priority categories for using the funds.
Ridenour also reported on storm clean-up and noted a posted speed-limit change to 60 mph on state highways in his department update. The engineer’s forthcoming recommendation will determine next procurement and contracting steps for the concrete work.
