Boyce council directs offer for interim code compliance inspector after executive session

The Boyce Town Council directed Town Administrator Matt Hoff to offer the Code Compliance Inspector position to Todd Shiley on an interim basis following an executive session on March 4, 2025.

Council moved into executive session at 7:18 p.m. to discuss a personnel matter; the motion to enter executive session was made by Councilmember Floyd Hudson and seconded by Berkeley Reynolds and passed 6-0. The council reconvened at 7:34 p.m.; Floyd Hudson moved to return to the regular meeting, Dennis Hall seconded, and the motion passed 6-0.

After the closed meeting, Mayor Zack Hudson instructed Hoff to extend an interim offer to Todd Shiley contingent on a satisfactory background check. Council discussion recorded the interim position at 15 hours per week with compensation of $19 per hour. The action was recorded as direction to staff rather than an appointment with an on-the-record vote to hire.

The council previously conducted two interviews for the vacancy on March 3, 2025; one candidate no‑showed and another withdrew, leaving the vacancy unfilled before the March 4 meeting. The council’s recorded steps following the executive session were procedural direction to the administrator to make an offer and to complete required pre-employment screening.

The council set a work session for March 25, 2025 at 6 p.m. and its next regular meeting for April 1, 2025 at 7 p.m. No public comment was recorded on the personnel matter and the meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
