Developer requests continuance for Benyon Apartments after Planning & Zoning Commission denial

City planning staff notified the Apache Junction council on July 6 that the applicant for the Benyon Apartments project, case P264PZ, has requested a continuance so they can amend their plans following a Planning & Zoning Commission 7-0 recommendation to deny.
The planner (identified in the transcript as Nick) told council members the commission cited concerns about a parking deviation, the provision of amenities, and how the project fits the character of the neighborhood. Nick said the applicant requested additional time to revise plans and proposed a follow-up work session on Monday, Aug. 3, with the city council public hearing moved to Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Nick noted the council must still hold the publicly noticed July 21 meeting, at which a motion to continue would be placed on the record. Several council members said they might not be available on Aug. 18 because of attendance at the League of Cities conference, and staff said they would coordinate to find an appropriate date if needed.
No formal continuance was approved during the work session; staff said they would work with the applicant on scheduling and bring the formal motion to the July 21 meeting as required by public-notice procedures.
