Commission requests ongoing general-plan and development-code updates from staff

At the July 8 meeting, Weatherford planning staff told commissioners it will provide periodic project-status reports including housing metrics, plat counts and pre-application meeting summaries and will undertake a refresh of the city's 2018 general plan.
Mr. McDonald said the 2018 plan is now pre-COVID and needs updating; he described a public process in which staff will prepare materials and return to the commission with reports and opportunities for public input. "We're committed to updating the general plan," Mr. McDonald said, adding that staff will also update the development code (the city's zoning ordinance) to reflect the plan refresh.
Commissioners asked that the status updates include counts of approved but not-yet-constructed lots, inventory of infill lots in platted subdivisions, and specifics about how signage and cladding approvals are being used in city projects. Mr. McDonald said the process will be comprehensive and include commission involvement at multiple stages. The update was placed on the commission's future-agenda items list for regular reporting.
