Northern Local board accepts retirement, approves terminations, hires and supplementals

At the Oct. 17 meeting President Dale DeRolph presided as the Northern Local Schools Board of Education voted on a package of personnel actions.
The board approved a retirement effective Dec. 31 for Thomas Kunkler, custodian, and approved the termination of Leah Crowley, one-on-one attendant, effective Sept. 3, 2024. The board also recorded resignations from Lisa Wells, Transportation Director, and Adam Foltz, assistant varsity softball coach. The board approved the appointment of Ca'tina Brown as Interim Transportation Manager (8 hours per day at $26.68 per hour), effective Oct. 14, 2024, and approved multiple certified and non-certified substitutes and appointments pending required certifications and background checks.
Supplemental assignments approved for the 2024-25 school year included Sarah Smathers (Sheridan High School yearbook advisor), Audra Wills (Sheridan High School newspaper advisor), Aubrie White (Sheridan Middle School 7th grade girls basketball coach) and assistant softball coaches Jason Barrera and Joe Richard. The personnel package was moved by Board member Levi Dupler, seconded by Board member Sharon Cains, and approved on a 4-0 roll call (Mrs. Cains, Mr. Dupler, Mrs. Miller, Mr. DeRolph voting aye).
The transcript lists effective dates, pay rates and pending certification/background-check status for specific hires; where the transcript marks items as pending, approval was conditional on completion of required checks.
