Director: summer programming surges while circulation dips in June

The Queoscombe Library's director (speaker 5) told the board July 10 that summer programming is drawing more people even as overall item circulation slipped in June.
"As of Tuesday, we had 411 registered participants, which is an 11% increase from last year," the director said, adding that the library has seen a roughly 37% increase in programming this month and program attendance is up about 20% for the year. She reported that village resident circulation is up 10% but that overall circulation across the service area was down about 6% compared with last year; e-content and audiobooks rose while some e-book categories dipped.
The director attributed some of the monthly fluctuation to the timing of paid performers (this year many occurred in July rather than June) and said she expects circulation figures to rebalance when July numbers are in. She also noted interlibrary-loan borrowing from WisCAT is down, while the library's lending to other libraries increased substantially.
On operations, the director said Monarch — the shared library system — is migrating Polaris-based records to the cloud this fall, a move that has made it harder to schedule IT staff to install three team computers that remain offline. The director said she is monitoring staffing and vacation coverage as summer work continues.
What happens next: The director will bring July circulation and program recaps to the board at the next meeting and expects to return with more detailed numbers.
