Harrison County accepts donations for sheriff's K9 program, including $5,000 surprise gift

Harrison County's commissioners on Nov. 20 accepted several donations to the sheriff's K9 program, including a $5,000 contribution that county officials described as a surprise and an example of public generosity.
The court recorded acceptance of $200 from David Thomas; $100 from Frank D. McMillan in memory of retired Sgt. Bill Patterson; and a $5,000 donation from Amanda Mursky. Chair recounted that a deputy stopped to help a motorist with a flat tire; the motorist subsequently sought the appropriate contact to support the county's canine program and the mailed check arrived for $5,000 instead of the $500 she initially expected to give. "When the check got here, it was made out for 5,000," the chair said.
Commissioner Ebarb moved to accept the $5,000 donation and Commissioner Timmons seconded; the court approved the donations unanimously. The funds were directed to the line item for the Harrison County canine program.
The court thanked the unnamed sheriff's department staff in attendance and expressed appreciation for the community donations.
