RDA advances Façade Program revisions and pushes sign-code changes to Planning Commission

At its March 4 meeting, the Slinger Redevelopment Authority reviewed proposed updates to the Façade Program Manual and draft revisions to the Village Center (VC-D) sign code aimed at better aligning downtown design rules with the Redevelopment District's goals.
Community Development Director Dyann Benson said staff had taken RDA feedback from the February meeting and drafted the manual and sign-code revisions. The manual revisions clarify the program boundary, eligible and ineligible projects and timelines and add a Creative Sign Program designed to encourage more creative downtown signage. "As part of the sign regulations conversation for the Village Center District, there was interest in utilizing the Façade Program to support a creative sign program to encourage downtown businesses to be more creative with their signage," the minutes state.
Members discussed removing message-changing signs from the VC-D, sign heights, window signs and wall cabinet signs. RDA members generally supported adding a Creative Sign Program but offered additional comments and edits; Benson said she would incorporate the suggestions and bring the revised Façade Program Manual and sign-code language back for approval and referral to the Planning Commission.
No formal vote was recorded on the program revisions at this meeting; the minutes indicate the matter will be presented to the Planning Commission at a future meeting for further review.
