Council hears downtown revitalization update; Star Theatre to pause programming for HVAC work

Town Manager Bryce Simmons told the Stuart Town Council the downtown revitalization project team has produced initial wayfinding drafts (about 20 proposed gateway and wayfinding signs) following a March site visit by Arnett Muldrow. Hill Studio is evaluating parking lot designs emphasizing functionality under DMU exemptions.
Simmons emphasized that replacing the Star Theatre's HVAC is a critical priority funded through a Tobacco Commission grant. To accommodate the new equipment on the building deck structure, theater programming will be paused during June, July, August and September unless the Council and project partners finalize a project timeline by the end of May; Simmons warned that missing that timeline could negatively affect community reliance on the theatre and the farmers' market.
The Council also noted a standing coordination meeting with the West Piedmont Planning District Commission scheduled for April 16 to advance design and administrative coordination. No council vote was taken at the meeting on the project timeline.
