Library and youth programs highlighted: coding camp, tech help and Summerfest updates

During public participation and council communications on July 6, library programming and youth outreach received sustained attention.
A speaker identifying himself as Doctor AJ spoke about the Leanna Hicks Public Library’s upcoming events: a basic computer class on Tuesday, July 14 (3–4 p.m.), one-on-one technology sessions Mondays 5–6 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis, author Gerald McBride’s talk on July 11, and bird-identification programming on Aug. 1. He praised library director Amisha Harrison and the library staff for outreach and programming.
Council members and staff also reported that a coding program run in partnership with the University of Texas began the week of June 22 and ran June 29–July 3, serving more than 30 children across multiple grade levels; council members praised the high level of engagement and noted that younger students performed strongly. The mayor and council also confirmed summer camp will start July 13 (a one-week delay) and previewed Summerfest on July 17–19 with themed evenings and a men’s mental-health session slated for July 18 at noon.
Speakers urged residents to check the city website for photos and updates, and council members promoted an upcoming town hall and candidate forum for voter engagement.
