Town approves WWDC Level II raw water study application, not a construction commitment

Byron council authorized submission of a Wyoming Water Development Commission Level II raw water supply study application; the town is not committing to construction and would receive funding for the study if awarded.
The Byron Town Council on Feb. 10 approved submission of an application and fee for a Level II Raw Water Supply Study through the Wyoming Water Development Commission (WWDC).
Clerk/Treasurer Nicole Hunter explained that the study application is separate from the nearby Sidon project and would not obligate the town to construction if funded. Hunter said that if the WWDC awards the study, the study would be 100% funded and the majority of the application fee would be refunded. Councilman Brandon Hessenthaler moved to approve the application and fee and Councilman Shae Abraham seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Council also discussed a potential USDA grant/loan to extend water to roughly 30 residents outside Byron limits and noted that no funds are currently earmarked for that project. The council agreed further discussion is required before any commitment.
Next steps: staff will submit the WWDC application and report back if the study is awarded.
