LBWID reports tree removals, dredging prep and a delayed tree-planting program

LBWID staff updated trustees on routine operations including tree removals, dredging preparations and shoreline maintenance.
The Operations Director said two major trees at the WID compound will require a crane for removal and that trucking of dried dredge spoils is nearly complete. Staff reported preparations for the fall dredging season on the Holmes Run side of Lake Barcroft are underway and that bathymetry data should arrive this week to identify gain/loss areas for dredging.
Crews trimmed branches and ivy along Potterton Bridge and its approaches, cutting back about 10 feet from the guardrail for safety even though responsibility lies with other organizations. Staff described recent lake cleanup after rain as minimal: cleanup recovered one barge load of wood and addressed duckweed in the channel by Beach 5. The district is also assisting the Lake Barcroft Association with a scheduled boat auction.
The LBWID has received replacement trees from its supplier but staff reported planting is delayed until the ground dries after roughly 12 days of rain to avoid damaging residents’ yards. No formal actions were taken on these operational items during the meeting.
