Andrew Delgado told commissioners the county had planned to apply last year for hazard mitigation money but timing and missing community letters prevented a full submission. Delgado asked the commission to approve applying for the Flood Mitigation Assistance grant under the capability and capacity building activities and to authorize a hard local match of up to $5,000.
"We committed to a hard match of up to $5,000 to update our pre‑disaster mitigation plan," Delgado said, describing the PDM update as the planning document for future mitigation projects and noting the county typically partners with several communities on the work.
Commissioner Johnson moved to authorize the grant application and the local match; the motion was seconded by McElhaney and approved by voice vote. Commissioners thanked staff for pursuing grant opportunities and noted the updated PDM would be due in 2027.
Delgado told the board the federal program allows planning costs as eligible under the Flood Mitigation Assistance capability and capacity building category and that updating the PDM would improve the county’s position for future mitigation project funding. With the board’s approval, staff will submit the application and proceed with necessary coordination.
