Labette County commissioners approve routine contracts, payroll and grant paperwork

The Labette County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a series of routine measures at its Sept. 30 meeting, including minute approval, a postage-machine lease for Public Works, payroll and accounts-payable disbursements, and authorization of signatures on a Kansas Department of Transportation road agreement and an Emergency Management Performance Grant application.
Chairman Vincent B. Schibi called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. and commissioners voted 3–0 to approve the minutes from the Sept. 22, 2025 meeting after Commissioner Tom Barrett moved to approve and Commissioner Terry Weidert seconded.
Commissioners authorized a lease between Pitney Bowes and Labette County Public Works for a SendPro C Series postage machine at $200.46 per quarter after a motion by Commissioner Terry Weidert and second by Commissioner Tom Barrett. The board also approved a Neighborhood Revitalization Plan application for Austin Payne on a unanimous vote.
The board approved authorizing signatures on an Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) application for fiscal year 2025 and on the Kansas Division of Emergency Management Title VI Civil Rights form. Commissioner Tom Barrett moved to authorize the EMPG application and Commissioner Terry Weidert moved to authorize the County Clerk’s signature on the Title VI form; both motions passed unanimously.
Finance items included approval of payroll (checks 1822–1823 totaling $4,842.48 and direct deposits 827130–827255 totaling $375,934.21, combined payroll $380,776.69) and accounts-payable checks 38523–38576 in the amount of $493,548.89. Both measures passed on 3–0 votes after motions by Chairman Schibi and seconding by Commissioner Barrett.
Commissioners also authorized signatures on the KDOT High Risk Rural Road Project agreement #50C-5366-01 following a motion by Commissioner Weidert and second by Commissioner Barrett.
The meeting adjourned at 10:31 a.m.; the board scheduled its next session for 9:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2025.
