Downingtown Library reports rising use, previews expansion plans

A Downingtown Library representative told the Upland Township Board the library’s service area grew about 6,000 people in 2025 and attendance and programming rose across the board; the library is in early design stages for an expansion and said summer programs have drawn strong participation.

A representative of the Downingtown Library briefed the Upland Township Board of Supervisors on the library’s annual report, telling the board its service-area population is “a little over 50,000 for 2025,” about 6,000 more than in 2024. The presenter said the library has seen increases in cardholders, a roughly 6% rise in door count and circulation, and added 144 programs in 2025 that produced a 32% increase in program attendance.
