Prairie Home aldermen adopt 26,000-pound weight limit and approve seasonal event resolutions

The City of Prairie Home Board of Aldermen adopted Ordinance No. 299 on May 21, 2026, setting a 26,000-pound gross-weight limit for through traffic on city streets.
Clerk Mary Sue Fontana presented the ordinance, and Alderman Cindy Lengel moved to approve it; Alderman David Borghardt seconded. The ordinance passed on a roll-call vote recorded as Borghardt yes; Lengel yes; Miller yes; Weber yes.
During the same meeting the board approved a package of routine and seasonal items. Alderman Sierrah Miller moved to renew Dollar General’s liquor license pending completion of its application; the motion passed. The board adopted Resolution 2026-01 to permit alcohol possession or consumption in certain public places during the 2026 Prairie Home Fair, and adopted Resolution 2026-02 to authorize possession and discharge of fireworks during the 2026 Independence Day holiday season. Each resolution was presented by Clerk Mary Sue Fontana and approved after motions and seconds from aldermen as recorded in the minutes.
The board also approved several routine procedural items: acceptance of the monthly financial report, updating the city’s bank signature cards to include Mayor Jim Lachner, Mayor Pro Tem Cindy Lengel and City Clerk Mary Sue Fontana, approval of previous meeting minutes and adjournment. Two bids for dirt and rock work presented for leveling the flower garden and the City Hall parking area were not accepted by the board.
