The Adair County Board of Supervisors approved Resolution #2026-31 on May 6, awarding the contract for Project LFM-LRCBW26P-7X-01 (Kent Avenue) to GUS CONSTRUCTION Co., Inc., of Casey, Iowa, for $171,260.60. Jerry Walker, chair of the Adair County Board of Supervisors, presided over the roll-call vote, which was recorded as aye from supervisors Hoadley, Baier, Wedemeyer, Christoffersen and Walker.
The project calls for replacing an existing corrugated metal pipe culvert with a reinforced concrete box culvert, plus placement of revetment, granular surfacing and seeding. The board authorized the chair to sign the contract documents immediately under the terms of the resolution.
Engineer Nick Kauffman presented the bid results and explanation of project scope and recommended awarding to the low bidder. The board also approved, on a separate motion, signing the final voucher for the N11 Lincoln Bridge Project L-LBRN11L—73-01.
Separately, the board approved hiring Erin Ford as an engineering intern at a rate of $18.00 per hour beginning May 18, 2026; Kauffman noted discussion about engineering licensure requirements following graduation. The hire was approved on a motion by Wedemeyer, seconded by Christoffersen.
Next steps for the culvert project include contract execution by the chair and scheduling mobilization with the contractor; the board did not set a competing date for construction in the minutes.
