Town Board accepts code enforcement officer resignation and appoints Jesse Thomson

The town board on June 18 accepted the resignation of Code Enforcement Officer Garrett Newbauer, effective July 18, 2026, and appointed Jesse Thomson as his replacement.

Supervisor Joseph Cetta recommended Jesse Thomson for the position, saying Thomson has relevant experience but must obtain certification before serving as the full-time code enforcement officer. Councilman Kevin Armstrong moved to accept Newbauer’s resignation and Councilwoman Patty Wood seconded; the motion carried. A separate motion by Armstrong and Wood appointed Thomson effective July 18, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2026, and passed unanimously.

The board set a provisional hourly rate of $22.00 for Thomson until he becomes certified. Supervisor Cetta proposed matching the prior provisional arrangement; Resolution #93 (moved by Councilman Leonard Govern and seconded by Councilperson Luis Rodriguez-Betancourt) approved the $22.00/hour provisional rate. The board also approved a shadowing plan: Thomson may work up to 15 hours per week to shadow outgoing officer Garrett Newbauer until July 18, 2026, with Thomson to become full time on July 19, 2026; the board recorded the shadowing arrangement as effective June 15, 2026. That action was approved by motion of Councilwoman Patty Wood, seconded by Councilman Rodriguez-Betancourt.

The board did not record a roll-call vote tally for the resignation, appointment, salary and shadowing motions beyond the meeting note that each motion carried. The clerk recorded the actions in the meeting minutes.

Next steps: Supervisor Cetta said he will coordinate certification dates and times for Thomson; the board asked that Thomson present proposed hours of operation for approval once certified.
