Lake County formalizes and expands Code Blue operations as extreme cold continues

The county administrator told the Board of Commissioners that Code Blue operations have been activated repeatedly during an extreme cold spell and that the county has worked with nonprofit and faith-based partners to scale services and shelter capacity.
"CodeBlue is up and running," the administrator said, and described a growing, organized volunteer base, new operational improvements (including a command text chain) and partnerships with United Way, Lifeline, Lake Tran, the Salvation Army, Saint Mary's Church and Job and Family Services.
The administrator said the county had been calling Code Blue "probably 8 or 9 nights in a row" and that the prolonged cold required opening warming centers on Sundays to help people who otherwise would have no shelter. A commissioner who spoke in follow-up reiterated the strain created by multiple consecutive nights of extreme weather and thanked the many organizations involved.
Officials did not announce new funding at the meeting; they described operational improvements and credited volunteers and partner agencies with helping to meet demand.
