Appling County accepts L.O.S.T. split: Baxley 37.5%, Graham and Surrency 2% each

The Appling County Board of Commissioners unanimously accepted an agreed L.O.S.T. distribution — 37.5% to Baxley and 2% each to Graham and Surrency — and authorized posting the 2023 proposed budget for public input.
On July 12 the Appling County Board of Commissioners accepted a proposed split of L.O.S.T. revenue with the City of Baxley receiving 37.5% and the cities of Graham and Surrency each receiving 2%, the board recorded.
Interim County Manager Mike Deal told commissioners he had met with each city manager to reach the agreement. Commissioner Sarah Boatright moved to accept the percentages; Commissioner Daryl Edwards seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
The board also discussed the 2023 proposed budget timeline. The county must approve the proposed budget by Sept. 30, 2022; the board authorized posting the budget and requesting public input, and scheduled a citizen Q&A with Interim County Manager Deal on July 14.
Board members said concerns about S.P.L.O.S.T. project lists and potential shortfalls remain and that specific SPLost item allocation will be addressed in a planned work session. The board set the deadline to submit the S.P.L.O.S.T. budget as Aug. 4, 2022.
