Cloud Lake adopts local mitigation plan, backs countywide transportation plan

Cloud Lake — The Cloud Lake Town Council voted 4-0 on Feb. 13 to adopt a local mitigation strategy and to support development of a countywide transportation plan, moves officials said are intended to preserve eligibility for federal mitigation funds and to coordinate transportation planning across jurisdictions.
The council authorized Mayor Russ Nidy to issue a “Let’s Move Palm Beach County” proclamation inviting residents to pledge 30 minutes of daily exercise during March. Council Member Kathleen Hoock moved to approve the proclamation and Council Member John Tyson seconded; the motion passed 4-0 with Council Member Alexandra Powell‑Sardinas absent.
Council later considered Res. No. 2025‑01, which adopts the Palm Beach County 2024 Local Mitigation Strategy Plan. Town staff said the resolution satisfies a requirement to have a Local Mitigation Plan to receive federal mitigation assistance and helps meet Community Rating System floodplain-management requirements that can lower residents’ flood-insurance premiums. Council Member John Tyson moved to adopt Res. No. 2025‑01; Council Member Hoock seconded, and the motion carried 4-0.
The council also approved Res. No. 2025‑02, a nonbinding measure supporting development of a countywide transportation plan and cooperative procurement and oversight of consultants to produce it. Council members said transportation services span multiple jurisdictions and that a coordinated countywide plan will better align municipalities, the county and taxing districts. The motion to adopt Res. No. 2025‑02 was made by Council Member Hoock, seconded by Council Member Tyson, and passed on a 4-0 vote with one member absent.
