Compensation Board recommends 3% COLA for Granite County elected officials

Members of the Compensation Board reviewed proposed elected-official compensation for Fiscal Year 2026–2027 on June 23, considering a 2.6% Consumer Price Index increase and county budget constraints. Cathy Smith moved and Ashley Todd seconded a recommendation that the Board of County Commissioners grant a 3% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for elected officials; the motion carried unanimously.
Board members discussed statutory salary calculations, longevity pay and recruitment and retention challenges for county government. During public comment, Elena Gagliano asked about the availability of Compensation Board agendas, minutes and supporting documents on the county website; commissioners responded that the Compensation Board meeting had been properly noticed as part of the regular Commission agenda.
The Compensation Board's recommendation was forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners for final approval; the commissioners did not take final action on the COLA during the June 23 session.
