Cascade County holds Community Needs hearing to gather CDBG project proposals

Cascade County held a Community Needs public hearing on June 23 to gather proposals for future Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding in planning, public facilities, housing and economic development categories.
Chairman James Larson opened the hearing and Trista Besich, the county’s Chief Finance Officer, presented the staff report outlining application windows and eligibility. Applicants and representatives spoke about potential projects and local needs: JoAnn Eisenzimer spoke for the Cascade Senior Community Center about its proposal; Ron Lorenz spoke on behalf of the Southwind Water Sewer District about infrastructure needs; Ronda Wiggers represented the Great Falls Home Builders Association; and Danielle Bundrock of NeighborWorks spoke in support of Southwind’s application.
Commissioners and staff asked clarifying questions about project scope and timing. The hearing record and staff report will inform which projects the county recommends for future CDBG application rounds, with application windows to be announced later in the summer or fall. Chairman Larson closed the hearing at 10:18 a.m. and the regular meeting resumed.
The hearing provided applicants an opportunity to place project needs on the county’s record for future competitive CDBG funding; staff will advise on next steps and application deadlines once those windows are announced.
