Ridgeway council asks VDOT for more study, council input after parking draft

Mayor Craig O’Der presented the VDOT draft during the council’s “Parks and Streets” update. CD Prillaman and Council Member Tim Wood described a recent ride-around that identified cleanup and maintenance needs across town, and several members linked on-street parking concerns to those circulation and maintenance issues.
Council Member Mike Bass moved that the council send a letter to Lisa Hughes at VDOT expressing appreciation for the draft but requesting further study and direct input from council; Tim Wood seconded the motion and it passed. The motion did not specify the additional analyses VDOT should perform beyond a general request for further study and council input.
Pat Walmsley urged the council to improve public notice about meetings so residents can weigh in; she recommended posting notices on Facebook, The Martinsville Bulletin and The Enterprise. The council did not record a formal response in the minutes beyond taking the motion on the VDOT study.
The council took no formal vote on specific parking regulations at the Jan. 7 meeting; the letter-request motion is the formal direction to VDOT recorded in the minutes. The council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 4, 2025.
