The Franklin City Commission authorized staff to hire Water Management Services to engineer upgrades intended to improve water pressure and reliability in the city's distribution system.
"The purpose of this memo is to request authorization to hire water management services to ... engineer and design projects that will improve water pressure," Trent Coffee said, calling out two near-term projects: pump upgrades at the plant (about $115,000 in engineering costs) and raising the city's water tanks (about $80,000). He told the commission those engineering costs are in this year's budget.
Commissioners asked whether the firm would only handle the two projects or continue with future work; staff responded that initial authorization is for the two projects, with potential subsequent work for line replacements and older galvanized mains as the city grows. The commission moved, seconded and approved the authorization.
City staff said design work on the tanks includes evaluating whether tanks would be raised 40 or 60 feet and that additional projects could follow once those immediate upgrades are complete. The resolution authorizing the engineering services does not itself approve construction contracts; it authorizes hiring the engineering firm to design the projects and produce required plans and specifications.
