Council members also raised safety and maintenance concerns: a creek near Lions Park is undercutting a walking area and the council has budgeted funds this year for stabilization work; several signs at county/state intersections have been flattened or damaged and staff said they will coordinate repairs and, where signs are KDOT responsibilities, notify the state. Members asked whether KDOT could address a short acceleration lane from westbound I‑70 turning north onto K‑7; staff said geometric constraints and land availability complicate the location and that the issue has been raised previously.
After a recent house fire in the northwestern part of town, councilors relayed Deputy Chief Jennings' observation that not every neighboring department uses compatible hydrant fittings. Council discussion focused on whether the city should coordinate with adjacent departments (including Edwardsville and UG) to ensure adapters or standardization are available for mutual aid. No policy decision or funding allocation was made; council asked staff to examine the issue.
